Peak Games - Toy Blast Game Trailer
Amy and the magic cauldron
I had the great honour of collaborating second time with Peak Games and created another Toy Blast trailer for this epic franchise.
Launched in 2015, Toy Blast has steadily become one of the most popular puzzle games globally. By combining the intuitive tap-and-blast game mechanic with best-in-class art direction. Today, with more than 200 million downloads, Toy Blast has become a daily source of joy across the world.
BRIEF:
Peak Games wanted to release a trailer for their monumental game Toy Blast, and they were pretty decisive about what they wanted. Mobile game marketing habitat has been following some trends around combining the actual gameplay with "outside of the gameplay" stories. So Peak Games team was looking for thrilling situations connected with their puzzle-solving action. They wanted to put their main character, Amy, into danger and save her by puzzle solving. Other than that, we were free to expand the horizons.
CHALLENGES:
The main expectation was to build tension and present dangerous situations. We had to introduce the game world to the viewers quickly and move to the action as soon as possible. The story shouldn't be vanilla or too complex to be conveyed in 30 seconds.
The vertical video was the main focus of the release, but the animation has to work in both horizontal and square formats.
UNIQUE SOLUTION:
We spent a significant amount of time building the story and wanted it to be uncommon for a puzzle game trailer.
We imagined our main character Amy as a cute witch trying to summon a magical unicorn toy out of wool. Her efforts went south; a Cthulhu like creature rises from the cauldron and attacks Amy. After resolving this obstacle, we wanted to put Amy in a Diabloesque dangerous world that there is no way to survive.
By introducing the real Unicorn in this world, we aimed for an emotional connection with the viewer and wanted to boost the drama of the scenes. And added a little surprise gag to the puzzle-solving action at the end of the video to create relief for the viewers.
Technical wise, we build a 3D world for the second half of the video and composited 2D VFX animations with 3D environment models, which allowed us to have complex camera movements without losing the dangerous atmosphere.
Thank you for checking our project!
And we want to thank Peak Games for this exciting collaboration, and we are grateful to work with a fantastic team, Please check the "Making of" section for further animation production details.

FORMAT:
We highly recommend checking the vertical format, it has more to offer. Camera angles and action scenes have a different taste than the horizontal version. And as you can experience the square format can deliver fun and storytelling.
